1. India won 6 more medals
including 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals on the final day of the
Commonwealth Games 2022. India reached on the 4th spot with total 61 medals in
which 22 are gold, 16 are silver and 23 are bronze medals.
2. RBI imposes penalty of ₹82
lakh on Jupiter Capital, ₹32 lakh on Indian Bank. The penalty is imposed on
Jupiter Capital and Indian Bank for breach of norms on submission of credit
information and reporting of frauds respectively.
3. A programme implemented
across the country, one nation one ration card (ONORC), has completed its three
years. The scheme has now been implemented all over the country with Assam
being the latest state to join the initiative in June 2022. The ONORC, which
was launched as a pilot project on August 9, 2019. Through this all eligible
ration card holders/beneficiary covered under NFSA can access their
entitlements from anywhere in the country.
4. JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar
has submitted his resignation as the NDA chief minister in Bihar to the state
governor Phagu Chauhan on 9th august 2022.
Nitish Kumar will be sworn-in as Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi
Yadav as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar 10th August 2022.
5. American legend Serena
Williams, winner of 23 Grand Slam titles, has announced her retirement from
professional tennis. She explained that one of her biggest reasons for
retirement is her intention to focus on her family.
6. In exercise of the power
conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the
President has appointed Shri Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Judge of the Supreme
Court as the Chief Justice of India. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit will take over as
the 49th Chief Justice of India on 27th August 2022.
7. World Biofuel Day is
observed every year on 10th August to create awareness about the importance of
non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels. This day also
honors the research experiments by Sir Rudolf Diesel who ran an engine with peanut
oil in the year 1893.
8. Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched 'Radio Jaighosh' on 09 August to mark the
anniversary of Kakori Train Action.The state's Department of Culture is
launching the community radio channel to promote folk art, performing art,
regional delicacies of Uttar Pradesh and gallantry award winners.
9. World Lion Day is observed
every year on August 10. World Lion Day 2022 aims at spreading awareness of
lions and the urgent need to strive toward their conservation and to make
everyone aware of the significance of lions in their natural habitat.
10.The former international
cricket umpire Rudi Koertzen has passed away in a car crash at age of 73.
Koertzen was known for his umpiring in record 331 international matches.
