1.     World Sanskrit Day or Sanskrit Diwas is celebrated annually on the occasion of Shraavana Poornima. The day was observed on 12 August this year. Sanskrit is also referred to as the mother of all languages in India. It is among the oldest languages in the world. Being one of the first spoken languages in the world, Sanskrit is of great importance in the ancient history of India. It is also called the ‘language of Gods.’


2.     International Youth Day is celebrated every year on August 12 to raise awareness about cultural and legal issues related to the youth. The day was marked by the United Nations, and it was first observed on August 12, 2000.


3.     World Elephant Day was launched on August 12, 2012, to bring attention to the situation of African and Asian elephants.It was first observed by Canadian filmmakers Michael Clark and Patricia Sims with the Thailand-based Elephant Reintroduction Foundation.


4.     The government has made changes to the Atal Pension Yojana‘s (APY) rules. Now, from October 1, 2022, any citizen who is or has been an income taxpayer will not be eligible to join the pension scheme.


5.     Former Member of Parliament and senior All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) politician K. Maya Thevar passed away due to age-related illness at his residence in Chinnalapatti near Dindigul. He was 87. The first MP of the AIADMK, Mr. Maya Thevar was born on October 15, 1934, at T. Uchapatti near Usilampatti in Madurai district.


6.     Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard became the first cricketer to play 600 T20 matches on Monday. The batter achieved this landmark during a match against Manchester Originals during ongoing The Hundred tournament at Lord's.


7.     The state government has decided to appoint the son of Devbhoomi and the talented player Rishabh Pant of the Indian cricket team as “State Brand Ambassador” with the aim of encouraging the youth of Uttarakhand towards sports and public health.


8.     The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on Wednesday, unveiled ‘SPARK’, a virtual space tech park, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, commemorating India's 75th year of Independence. 


9.     Trade receivables discounting platform M1xchange has tied up with HDFC Bank with an aim to provide more liquidity to small businesses at competitive interest rates. This move is expected to bring in high liquidity to buyer corporates and MSMEs at competitive interest rates.


10.National football team captain Sunil Chhetri was on Tuesday named the AIFF Men's Footballer of the Year for the seventh time while Manisha Kalyan was picked for her maiden honor in the women's category for the 2021-22 season.
