1.     The Orion capsule for the Artemis I mission splashed down in the Pacific Ocean after a fiery re-entry into Earth's atmosphere and a descent that was further slowed by parachutes. This was last achieved exactly 50 years ago to the day by the crew of Apollo 17. The agency's new project is called Artemis, who in Greek mythology was the sister of Olympian god Apollo. Nasa has described the return of Orion to Earth yesterday as its priority one objective.

2.     US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen hailed fellow pioneers during the unveiling of the first US banknotes printed with two women's signatures`. Yellen is now the first woman to head the Treasury and chair the US Federal Reserve. The banknotes, to be delivered to the Federal Reserve this month and enter circulation next year, are the first to carry the signature of a female Treasury chief and a Native woman.

3.     After representing India at Cannes 2022, actor Deepika Padukone will once again make an appearance on a global stage for the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup. Deepika will be unveiling the FIFA World Cup trophy at the jam-packed stadium. The FIFA World Cup final will be played on 18 December 2022 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

4.     England’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler was named ICC men’s Player of the Month for the first time following his stupendous show in November. Pakistan’s Sidra Ameen became the second successive winner of the women’s Player of the Month award from the country. International Cricket Council (ICC) is the world governing body of cricket and was founded on 15th June 1909. Headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, its members are 108 national associations, with 12 Full Members and 96 Associate Members.

5.     A Japanese space startup launched a spacecraft to the moon, after several delays, a step toward what would be a first for the nation and for a private company. ispace Inc's HAKUTO-R mission took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, after two postponements caused by inspections of its SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The national space agencies of the United States, Russia and China have achieved soft landings on Earth's nearest neighbour in the past half century but no companies have.

6.     The meeting of G20 Development Working Group (DWG) will begin in Mumbai under the India's Presidency. The first G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD) meeting will also begin today in Bengaluru. This meeting, which will mark the start of discussions on the Finance Track agenda under the Indian G20 Presidency, will be hosted jointly by the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India.

7.     A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carried into space the first ever Arab-built lunar spacecraft. It was launched from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The Rashid Rover was built by Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and is being delivered by the HAKUTO-R lander, engineered by Japanese lunar exploration company ispace. The mission is due to arrive at Moon around April 2023.

8.     Hindi film Ayena, directed and produced by Siddhant Sirin, is being showcased at the 20th edition of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival being organized in Kathmandu from 8-12 December 2022. The film shows how a momentary act of revenge forever transforms the lives of two young Indian women, weaving a story around acid attack survivors. This is an annual event; since the year 2000, presenting quality films and exposes local audiences to current trends in global independent cinema.

9.   Three medicinal plant species found in the Himalayas have made it to IUCN Red List of Threatened Species following a recent assessment. Meizotropis pellita has been assessed as ‘critically endangered’, Fritilloria cirrhosa as ‘vulnerable’, and Dactylorhiza hatagirea as ‘endangered’. The species is threatened by deforestation, habitat fragmentation and forest fires.

Ø हिमालय में पाई जाने वाली तीन औषधीय पौधों की प्रजातियों ने हाल ही में हुए एक आकलन के बाद संकटग्रस्त प्रजातियों की IUCN रेड लिस्ट में स्थान दिया गया है। मीज़ोट्रोपिस पेलिटा को 'गंभीर रूप से लुप्तप्राय', फ्रिटिलोरिया सिरोहोसा को 'सुभेद्य' के रूप में और डैक्टाइलोरिज़ा हैटागिरिया को 'लुप्तप्राय' के रूप में मूल्यांकित किया गया है। इन सभी प्रजातियों को वनों की कटाई, आवास विखंडन और जंगल की आग से खतरा है।
