GMR Goa International Airport (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure, has won 'Best Sustainable Greenfield Airport' award under aviation sustainability and environment at ASSOCHAM's 14th International Conference-cum-Awards for Civil Aviation 2023. The award was presented for "excellent initiatives" taken by GGIAL in implementing sustainability as one of core concepts. The criteria of awards are contribution, innovativeness, applicability, relevance and impact potential in their respective areas.

President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, will pay a state visit to India from the 24th to the 26th of January. President El-Sisi will be the Chief Guest at India’s 74th Republic Day. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including five Ministers and senior officials. This is for the first time that the President of Egypt has been invited as Chief Guest at India's Republic Day celebrations. A military contingent from the Egyptian Army will also participate in the Republic Day parade. India and Egypt are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

The Ministry of Education is organising a nationwide painting competition in 500 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which is being observed as Parakram Diwas. The theme of the competition is about becoming an 'Exam Warrior' based on the book written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A total of 50 thousand students are expected to take part in this painting competition across the country.

The United States has announced new visa initiatives for Indians, including greater strength of visa staff across the country to reduce wait times for first-time visa applicants.  As part of this initiative, the United States opened consular operations across the country to accommodate applicants who require an in-person visa interview. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in profound reductions in the U.S. visa processing capacity, and many of its embassies and consulates were at times only able to offer emergency services.

Burkina Faso's junta government ordered French troops to depart the country within a month. The decision has been taken to end the deployment of French troops in the country. Hundreds demonstrated in the capital Ouagadougou, chanting anti-France slogans and calling upon the French army to leave the country. The decision comes five months after France pulled its last remaining troops from the neighbouring West African nation of Mali after nine years of operation.

In Brazil, the government has declared a medical emergency in the Yanomami territory following reports of children dying of malnutrition and other diseases caused by illegal gold mining.  The aim of the declaration was to restore health services to the Yanomami people that had been dismantled by the previous government. The government announced food packages that will be flown to the territory where some 26,000 Yanomamis live in a region of rainforest and tropical savanna. Yanomami has been invaded by illegal gold miners for decades.

India has extended a concessional USD 40 million Line of Credit for developing sporting infrastructure in the Maldives, as part of India’s efforts related to flagship projects such as “Fit India” and “Khelo India” into the ambit of the Neighbourhood First Policy. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar is on a three-day visit to the Maldives and Sri Lanka to further expand bilateral engagement with the two key maritime neighbours of India. Fit India and Khelo India were introduced by the government of India to revive sporting and fitness culture at the grass root level in the country. Jaishankar inaugurated the community centre with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid.

Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurates Millets Mahotsav at Mandla, Madhya Pradesh. In the wake of the United Nations General Assembly declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries is hosting Millets Mahotsav across 20 States and 30 Districts in the country with the aim of creating awareness about the nutritional benefits, value addition, consumption and export potential of Millets. Mandla is the hub of production of the Kodo and Kutki Millet which has also been identified as the One District One Product (ODOP).

The National Conclave of Pastoral youth drawn from 16 states converged at Bhuj, Kachchh (Gujarat) to discuss their aspirations, challenges and the need for policy discourse with the government. Pertinent to note that Sahjeevan – Centre for Pastoralism holds the lead in piloting several interventions in the sector for the extensive livestock production system. 

The Nation will celebrate its 74th Republic Day on the 26th of January. Display of the growing stature of women (Nari Shakti) in the armed forces will be one of the key highlights of the Republic Day parade this year. The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force marching contingent will be led by women officers during the parade. The Indian Air Force marching contingent will be led by Squadron Leader Sindhu Reddy. The marching contingent of IAF will consist of four Officers and 144 air warriors.
