1.Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has nominated legendary former athlete and MP PT Usha to the panel of Vice chairpersons in the Upper House. Announcing it in the House, Mr. Dhankar said, this is the first time a nominated member has been appointed to the Vice Chairman panel. YSRC MP Vijai Sai Reddy has also been nominated along with her. PT Usha, a multiple Asian Games gold medallist and fourth-place finisher in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics 400m hurdles final, was declared elected unopposed for the top post in the polls being held under the supervision of Supreme Court.

2.     Every year on December 23, the birthdate of Choudhary Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India, Farmer's Day is observed. Indian government decided to designate Choudhary Charan Singh's birth anniversary as Kisan Diwas in 2001 to honor his contributions to the agricultural industry and the welfare of farmers. Since that time, December 23 has been observed as National Farmers' Day. To raise awareness of the value of farmers and their contribution to the economy, various awareness campaigns and drives are held on this day across the nation.

4. The country's first infantry museum will be inaugurated in Mhow cantonment in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh on December 16. The museum will be inaugurated on December 16 and will be thrown open to the public from December 17. The construction of the museum has been completed and final touches are being given to the building and the surrounding garden, said Lt Col Tripathi who is posted at the facility.

5.     India’s longest escape tunnel, which is 12.89 km long constructed on the 111 km under-construction Banihal-Katra railway line in Jammu and Kashmir was completed by the Indian Railways. The longest tunnel is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) project. This is the fourth tunnel on the Banihal-Katra route following the 12.75 km tunnel T-49, the longest tunnel of the Indian Railways, which was completed in January this year. The escape tunnel has been constructed to facilitate rescue work if an emergency situation arises.

6. Senior nuclear scientist Dinesh Kumar Shukla has been appointed as the chairperson of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) for a period of three years, according to a government order. Shukla, who has been the executive director of the AERB, succeeds G. Nageswara Rao to the top post. A graduate in mechanical engineering from the Jabalpur University, Shukla joined the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) in 1981.

7.Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the second version of 'Orunodoi', the flagship scheme of the state government aimed at providing financial security to financially disadvantaged families. The guaranteed minimum cash flow of Rs 1,250 for the underprivileged families of the state would be extremely helpful in the government's aim of poverty alleviation. April 2023 onwards, all the existing beneficiaries of the Deen Dayal Divyangan Pension Yojana and Indira Miri Widow Pension Scheme would be subsumed under Orunodoi 2.0. Divyangans and transgenders would also be included under the 'Orunodoi' scheme.

8. Gujarat’s Vadnagar town, the iconic Sun Temple at Modhera, and the rock cut sculptures of Unakoti in Tripura have been added to the tentative list of UNCESO World Heritage Sites. The UNESCO tentative list is an “inventory of those properties which each State Party intends to consider for nomination”. With this, India now has 52 sites on UNESCO Tentative List. The list indicates rich cultural and natural wealth of India and shows huge diversity of our heritage.

9. The Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar has got A grade by scoring 3.85 points in National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading, thereby becoming the only University in India to get this score. Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It was set up by an act passed by the Punjab state legislature. The University has also been conferred with the status of “University with Potential for Excellence” by UGC.

10.The Government has said, the country's maiden human space flight mission, Gaganyaan, is targeted to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2024. In view of the paramount importance of crew safety, two uncrewed flights are scheduled, before the final human space flight- 'H1 mission', to demonstrate the performance of the crew escape system and parachute-based deceleration system for different flight conditions.
