The first G20 environment meeting under G20 India Presidency is scheduled to be held during 09th -11th February in Bengaluru, at The Taj West End. Leading to the 1st Meeting in Bengaluru, Mysuru Zoo in coordination with Central Zoo Authority organized a Two-Day National Conference for Zoo Directors of India on the 18th and 19th of January 2023. The Mysuru zoo, one of the best-managed zoos in India, was chosen as a venue to focus on best practices in zoo management.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a one-week Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) operations & Search and Rescue (SAR) course in Mumbai between January 16-21, 2023. The course was conducted under the aegis of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) for officers and sailors of Maritime Security Agencies from six friendly countries - Bangladesh, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Myanmar and Maldives. A total of 22 trainees (10 officers & 12 sailors) participated in the specialised training.

As India is hosting the Youth20 (Y20) summit for the first time on the side-lines of the G20 summit, the first meeting of the Y20 Group shall be held in Guwahati from 6th to 8th February, 2023. This is the first of the various meetings to be held on the five Y20 themes across India in a run-up to the final Youth-20 Summit in August 2023. It will focus on five themes of Future of Work; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; Peace Building and Reconciliation; Youth in Democracy and Health, well-being and Sports.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport (MYAS) on January 19th and 20th held its first Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) meeting outside Delhi and on the sidelines of the ongoing Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The fortnightly meeting, where members of MOC meet to discuss key agenda points of India's Olympic Program and proposals of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) athletes, was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha where they also got to see the Indian men's Hockey team play their last group stage match against the Wales team.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is hosting the 2nd International Conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Elections Integrity’ at New Delhi on 23-24 January, 2023. The first international conference of the Cohort was organized on 31 Oct – 01 Nov, 2022 at New Delhi on the topic ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’.  The two-day international conference will be inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Rajiv Kumar. ‘Summit for Democracy’, was an initiative of US President and hosted in December 2021. The Prime Minister of India spoke at the Leaders Plenary Session on December 9, 2021. 

Indian Institute of Technology Madras-incubated firm has developed a mobile operating system 'BharOS' that can benefit India's 100 crore cellphone users in India. The software can be installed on commercial off-the-shelf handsets, which will provide a secure environment for the users. BharOS comes with No Default Apps (NDA), which means that users are not forced to use apps that they may not be familiar with or that they may not trust.

President Droupadi Murmu will confer this year's Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar at a ceremony in New Delhi on January 23. The awards will be conferred on 11 children for their exceptional achievement in six categories - Art, Culture, Bravery, Innovation, Social Service, and Sports.  Each awardee will receive a medal, a cash prize of one lakh rupees, and a certificate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani will interact with the awardees on January 24.

Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn won the India Open title. He defeated World No.1 Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in the men's singles final of the India Open Badminton Championship 22-20, 10-21 and 21-12 today at K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.  Earlier, Korean sensation An Seyoung won the Women's singles final. She beat World No.1 Japanese Akane Yamaguchi 15-21, 21-16, 21-12. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will name the 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees on January 23.  He will virtually attend the event being held at Port Blair. The Prime Minister will also unveil the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji. On January 22, a series of events were held in Port Blair, such as Kavi Sammelan at Cellular Jail, a music and dance show, and a naval band performance. 

A grateful nation remembers the great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary today, January 23. It was on this day in 1897, that Neta Ji was born in Cuttack, Odisha. The day is celebrated as Parakram Diwas.  The 23rd of January is celebrated as Parakram Diwas every year to inspire people of the country, especially the youth, to act with fortitude in the face of adversity as Netaji did, and to infuse in them a spirit of patriotic fervour.
