1. Indian wrestling contingent performed
exceptionally, winning six medals which included 3 gold, 1 silver and two
bronze on the day 8 of Commonwealth Games 2022. India’s medal tally reaches 26
with 9 golds, 8 silvers and 9 bronze medals.
2. RPF undertakes month long Pan India
Drive under ‘Operation Yatri Suraksha’ to enhance security of railway property,
passenger area and passengers, With the aim of improving the security of
passengers travelling by Indian Railways.
3. The Reserve Bank of India has allowed
NRIs to pay bills on behalf of their families in India through Bharat Bill Pay
System (BBPS). This facility will start soon. Instead of transmitting money to
Indian accounts and using it to pay such bills, NRIs will soon be able to
directly pay such bills on BBPS.
4. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal
Khattar’s government recently launched the “Chief Minister Equal Education
Relief, Assistance and Grant (Cheerag)” scheme. Under the Cheerag scheme,
government school students whose parents have an annual verified income of less
than Rs 1.8 lakh can enroll in private schools from Class II to XII.
5. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra
Modi addressed the 3rd National Committee meeting on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in
New Delhi. The first meeting of the National Committee was held on 8th March
2021 before the launch of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the Prime Minister on 12th
March 2021. The second meeting of the committee was held on 22nd December,
2021.
6. Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep
Dhankhar will be the 14th Vice-President of the India. He secured 528 votes out
of the 710 valid votes in the 16th Vice-Presidential election held in
Parliament on 6th August 2022.
7. 8th National Handloom Day celebrated
on 6th August 2022. A function organised by the Ministry of Textiles,
Government of India. National Handloom Day has been celebrated to make the
weavers and other stakeholders aware of the Govt. Schemes, the transforming
nature of the business and increasing use of technology to promote the Handloom
Sector to achieve greater heights.
8. As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav
(AKAM) to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence, commemorative visits are
being undertaken by Indian Navy ships to foreign ports in every continent
(except Antarctica). This event is spread across six Continents, three Oceans
and in six different Time Zones.
9. National School of Drama under Azadi
Ka Amrit Mahotsav is organizing "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav - 22nd Bharat
Rang Mahotsav, 2022 (Azadi Segment)" to pay tributes to our freedom
fighters. As part of the 22nd Bharat Rang Mahotsav, 2022 (Azadi Segment), 30
plays will be showcased in Delhi, Bhubaneshwar, Varanasi, Amritsar, Bengaluru
and Mumbai from 16th July to 14th August, 2022.
10.US Navy Ship has docked in India for
the first time for repairs and maintenance. US naval ship Charles Drew arrived
at L&T’s Katupalli Shipyard at Ennore, near Chennai yesterday for
undertaking repairs and maintenance. This will be the first time that a US Navy
ship is being repaired in an Indian shipyard.
