Overview

The RRB ALP Exam, or the Railway Recruitment Board Assistant Loco Pilot Exam, is a computer-based test conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) in India to recruit candidates for the posts of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs) and Technicians. The exam is conducted in four phases:

CBT 1: This is the first phase of the RRB ALP Exam and consists of 75 questions,75 marks in 60 minutes. The questions are objective in nature and cover topics such as General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, Mathematics, and General Awareness on Current Affairs.

CBT 2: This is the second phase of the RRB ALP Exam and consists Part A has four subjects - Mathematics, Basic Science and Engineering, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness of 100 Questions in 90 min. and Part B consists of questions from the relevant trade of 75 Questions in 60 minutes. 

CBAT: The candidates need to score a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. The ALP merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based Aptitude Test.

Medical Examination: This is the final phase of the RRB ALP Exam and is conducted to assess the candidate's physical fitness for the post.

RRB ALP Job Profile: - Candidates chosen for the RRB ALP position have to carry out specific obligations as directed by higher authorities, including:

  • Attending to minor locomotive repairs
  • Fine-tuning the locomotive
  • Calling out signals once observed
  • Evaluating the locomotive’s efficiency on a regular basis, and so on.

Stage 2 (CBT) Exam Pattern: -
Stage 2 of RRB ALP is also a computer-based test where there are two parts: the first part consist of 100 marks and the second part consists of questions specific to the relevant trade, this section is of 75 marks.

There will be 1/3rd negative marking in the first two rounds.
Stage 3 Exam Pattern: - Stage 3 of the RRB ALP is Computer based aptitude test or CBAT. It does not have any negative marking. The candidate needs to score 42 marks in the each of the test batteries. For final selection 70% weightage will be given to second CBT and 30% to CBAT.
