Overview

To begin with the preparation for any exam, the candidates must be aware of the complete & accurate exam pattern along with a detailed SSC CHSL syllabus to plan a full-proof strategy to score good marks in the particular exam.

SSC CHSL exam has two different phases that candidates need to clear to get selected for various posts in Government Offices. SSC CHSL Phase I Syllabus comprises questions on General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English. The questions in the English section are based on the 10+2 level while questions on Quantitative Aptitude are of the 10th standard.

SSC CHSL Tier 1 General Intelligence Syllabus

The section aims to test the logical reasoning capacity of a candidate. Both verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions are asked in this section. The questions are focused heavily on decision-making, analogy, series, and intelligence. 

Important topics of this section are:

Analogy:  Questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/Number 

Analogy, Trends, and Figural Analogy 

Number/Alphanumeric Series: Questions on Semantic Series, Number Series, and Figural Series. 

 Syllogism: Syllogism is a form of reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn from 

two or three given statements. You can use the Venn diagram for these 

questions.  

Direction/Ranking: Questions based on direction sense  

Non-Verbal Reasoning: Questions based on Paper Cutting. Cubes and Dice, Grouping of Images 

and Figure Matrix 

Miscellaneous: Odd One Out, Coding, and decoding, Embedded figures, Critical 

Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, etc.  

SSC CHSL Tier 1 General Awareness Syllabus

The questions in this section are designed to test the candidate’s awareness of the environment around and its application and also to test knowledge of current events. The test will include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy, and Scientific Research. Following are some important topics:

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus

Quantitative Aptitude is the calculative section of the SSC CHSL Tier 1 syllabus containing mathematics questions. This part is asked from the CBSE class 10 maths syllabus. The focus is on basic arithmetic and algebra. Important topics for this section are as follows:

Number System: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers. 

Fundamental Arithmetical Operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time and work. 

Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and 

Graphs of Linear Equations. 

Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of 

centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles 

subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles. 

Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right, Pyramid with triangular or square Base. 

Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin2???? + Cos????=1 etc., 

Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart. 

SSC CHSL Tier 1 English Language Syllabus

The English section tests candidates’ understanding of the language through an assortment of questions consisting of both grammar and comprehension-based questions. Important topics in SSC CHSL Tier 1 English section are:

English language: types of questions will be related to the usage of English language. Topics are spot the error, fill in the blanks, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, Cloze passage. 

Vocabulary: questions will be from topics like synonyms/ homonyms, antonyms, spellings/ detecting misspelled words, idioms & phrases, and one word substitution. 

Grammar: questions will be on improvement of sentences. Active/ passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/ indirect narration.  

Reading comprehension: there will be a comprehension passage based on which 3 to 5 questions will be asked. This is a very simple and scoring section.
